reporting system. AirNow's monitor network publishes new hourly readings
roughly 10–20 minutes after the top of each hour; this page pulls
the most recently completed hour's data and refreshes hourly to match.
For each location and pollutant, this page reports the AQI from the
single nearest AirNow-reporting monitor, along with that
monitor's name, distance, and type (regulatory vs. low-cost/temporary
sensor) — rather than an unlabeled blended regional estimate. If
the nearest available monitor for a pollutant is more than
50 miles away, this page reports it as
unavailable (naming the distant monitor for transparency) rather than
showing a number that far away as if it reflected local conditions.
Overall AQI for a site is the highest of its available pollutant
sub-index values within that 50-mile range
(the pollutant driving that number is listed as "dominant pollutant"),
per EPA convention.
